State: Tax Preparer Pleads Guilty to Fraud

With tax season fast approaching, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is pointing to the case of a Chicago tax preparer as a warning against tax fraud.

Madigan says Katrina McAllister pleaded guilty earlier this week to one count of filing a fraudulent Illinois income tax return and one count of entering false information on an Illinois tax return. She has been sentenced to 18 months of probation and ordered to pay criminal restitution.

State investigators say McAllister fraudulently prepared and filed several tax returns - both for herself and for several other people.

In announcing McAllister's sentence Thursday, Madigan said tax cheats should know the state will pursue and prosecute them.
