"The census is a fundamental part of our democracy. We must encourage every person in our country to participate, instead of putting up barriers to prevent people from being counted,” Madigan said in a statement released by her office. “I will take legal action to protect immigrant communities in Illinois and ensure they are represented fairly and accurately.”

“It shouldn’t cost us money to do that, when one of the main reasons we need to be concerned about that right now is the fact that Equifax lost all our personal financial information,” she said.

“The defendant exploited his work for the Chicago Housing Authority to steal resources intended for public housing residents,” Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a statement. “I appreciate the work of the CHA’s Office of the Inspector General in this investigation.”

"The services provided through the state's Home Services Program allow people with disabilities to live independently in their homes. Abuse of the program is unacceptable, and my office will prosecute individuals who misuse the scarce resources devoted to the program."

In Illinois, which recently passed a borrower’s bill of rights over the governor’s veto, the Attorney General Lisa Madigan vowed in a statement to “continue to fight the fraudulent and abusive practices in this industry.”

On Wednesday morning, Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced she has filed a lawsuit to shut down a Chicago tax preparer for defrauding consumers. Madigan filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court to shut down Su Familia Income Tax and its operators Michelle Lopez, Melissa Gasca and Vanessa Campos. The lawsuit alleges Su Familia, at 2638 W. 51st St. in Chicago, purports to offer low-cost tax preparation services for a fee of about $150. Madigan alleges, Su Familia signs consumers up for unnecessary and expensive tax-related financial products and deducts significant additional fees from consumers’ tax refunds without their knowledge. These undisclosed fees are typically $500 per person but can be over $1,000 and in some cases account for over 50 percent of a consumer’s expected tax refund.

"I will continue to fight to protect net neutrality from the FCC's ill-advised attempt to put corporations ahead of the American public's right to access free information. We won't allow this administration to control what Americans view and access online."

Twenty-two Democratic state attorneys general on Tuesday launched a lawsuit aimed at preserving net neutrality on Tuesday, the same day the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published its rule striking the regulations in the Federal Register.

“My office will never send messages over social media or emails asking for your social security number or personal information,” Madigan said in the statement. “If you receive a message claiming to be from me or the Illinois Attorney General’s office, do not respond or click on any links and contact my office directly to report the scam.”

“The Department of Labor’s proposal is outrageous. Not only do workers deserve the money they have earned for the service they provided, but millions of customers who leave tips expect that money to go to the employee who helped them,” Madigan said in a statement.

“I have been dismayed by the sudden dropoff in the number of IEPA referrals to my office,” Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a statement. “The failure to thoroughly investigate and refer violations of the laws has dangerous consequences for people’s health and the environment.”
