Attorney General Madigan’s Office to Host Resource Fair to Assist Veterans on Friday, November 8
Attorney General Lisa Madigan, with the Illinois Joining Forces Financial Literacy Working Group, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and other advocates, will host a resource fair on Friday to assist veterans and military service members in recognition of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday.
Madigan’s Military and Veterans Rights Bureau and its partnering groups will be on site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the atrium of the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St., Chicago.
The event will provide information about benefits for Illinois veterans along with helpful consumer advice and tips for avoiding scams that target veterans. Two local VFW Veterans Service Officers will also be available to provide assistance to veterans with their Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits claims. Veterans should bring their discharge paperwork, such as their DD-214s, to the fair.
“Veterans and military service members are entitled to certain benefits under the law for their service and sacrifice to our country,” Madigan said. “We’re hosting this event to raise awareness about the resources and assistance available to veterans and their families so they can rightfully claim what they are due and learn how to steer clear of scams that brazenly target their access to these benefits.”
Veterans who need assistance applying for VA benefits, including pension and disability compensation, are encouraged to utilize the free services of a recognized, accredited VSO, such as those from the VFW. Madigan’s Military and Veterans Rights Bureau provides men and women with information they need to understand their legal rights and programs to help them make sound financial decisions.
