Crainville clerk given 48 month probation term

A former employee of the village of Crainville has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $71,000 from the village.

Linda Harvill, 64, was sentenced Monday in Williamson County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to one count of theft over $10,000 and one count of official misconduct. Harvill was sentenced to 48 months of probation and ordered to pay $70,726 in restitution.

Harvill stole $70,726 of Crainville village funds from January 2010 through June 2012 when she served as the village’s water department office manager, handling billing and collections for customer water, sewer and garbage services, information states. Harvill also was responsible for the collection of building permit fees, city ordinance violations and other general fund receipts. She worked for the village for 24 years before being placed on administrative leave in July 2012. Harvill resigned in August 2012.

“Public employees using their positions for personal gain is an inexcusable crime that impacts all taxpayers, and this case shows that those who break the law will be held accountable.” said Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

Assistant Attorneys General Kilby MacFadden, David Navarro and Associate Director Louis Dolce handled the case for Madigan’s Public Integrity Bureau based on a referral from the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s office.
