Cicero oil production firm faces new legal action over antifreeze spill

Attorney General Lisa Madigan on Thursday filed an amended lawsuit against Olympic Oil at 5000 W. 41st St. in Cicero, which seeks to require the firm to “completely remediate soil and groundwater contaminated by the oil and antifreeze spills, and to take action to prevent future releases into the environment,” a statement from the AG’s office said.

Madigan: more needs to be done to help sexual assault victims

With as few as 5 percent of sexual assault victims on campuses going to police, more needs to be done to help victims feel confident in the legal system, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Tuesday.

"We know that the first point of contact is absolutely critical," Madigan told participants at a summit on the issue at Illinois State University. It was one of three such events her office has organized on sexual violence on campus.

Statewide task force wants to improve response to sex assault

"Too many survivors of sexual assault unfortunately believe they will never find justice," Madigan said. "When sexual assault goes unreported, however, we don't just have a survivor whose life is damaged. We also have a situation that means that rapists will continue to be in our communities. They will continue to victimize the girls, the boy s, the men, the women whose lives will be forever damaged potentially by these horrible crimes."
